clean-up targets thorpe edge beck site

23 March 2007

Housing trust wardens are joining forces with a Council ‘green’ team to clean up a stream and open space in Thorpe Edge.

From 26 March they will give Haigh Beck, a spring clean by clearing litter and rubbish from the stream and the surrounding area, cut back undergrowth and overgrown brambles.

Estate wardens from across the BCHT group will help colleagues from North Bradford Community Housing Trust and Bradford Council’s Environmental Task Force in the three day clean-up.

Residents and ward councillors have highlighted the need to clean up Haigh Beck at local Neighbourhood Forums and in a recent estate inspection.

The wardens and Council workers will also be tidying up areas by the side of the low-rise blocks of flats off Garsdale Avenue on the Thorpe Edge estate.

Anna Fryer, BCHT Acting Director for the North Bradford area said: “The Trust is committed to helping keep neighbourhoods and open spaces attractive and tidy for everyone.

“After we received feedback from residents about Haigh Beck we contacted the Council to programme in a clean up of the area. It promises to be a real team effort between BCHT and the Council to tidy up the beck and the area around it.

“Clean ups like this show how important it is to keep the environment attractive and it is important that the whole community also play their part in keeping areas tidy.”

Coun Anne Hawkesworth,  Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Environment and Culture, said: “We are working closely with the housing trust on a number of clean-ups to make the Bradford District a greener, cleaner and safer place to live.”
