Residents in central Bingley were encouraged to help keep their neighbourhoods tidy and get rid of unwanted bulky items as part of a big clean up on Saturday (18 Nov).
Aire-Wharfe Community Housing Trust and the Council’s Cleansing Services and Shipley Area Committee teamed up to organise the clean-up.
During the day, street cleaners and refuse teams tidied up the area bordered by Bradford Road, Ferncliffe Road, Leonard Street and the homes off Church Street.
Residents were asked to place bulky refuse such as old mattresses, prams and bags of rubbish next to the roadside so they could be collected.
Harry Whittle, Head of Operations for Aire-Wharfe Community Housing Trust said: “Our tenants in the centre of Bingley have raised concerns about illegal fly-tipping and problems with bulky items being dumped. As a caring and responsible landlord we organised this big clean-up.
“Keeping neighbourhoods attractive and tidy is important to residents and the housing trust. By working together with the Council and the community we can all make a difference and we would encourage everyone to do their bit.”
Coun Anne Hawkesworth, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for the Environment and Culture, said: “This clean-up is a great example of people working together to keep their neighbourhoods tidy.
“We must encourage residents to take pride in their community and create a pleasant place for people to live, work and play.”
