european neighbours' day celebrations

29 May 2007

Residents across the district were encouraged to be good neighbours as part of a European-wide celebration in the city

On Tuesday (29 May) Centenary Square hosted fun fair rides, food tasting, face painting, arts and crafts activities, story telling, quizzes and more, all with a continental flavour to celebrate Bradford European Neighbours’ Day.

The family-themed event was hosted by Bradford Community Housing Trust – the area’s biggest social landlord – working in partnership with Bradford Council, Bradford Vision, the European Forum and the Central and Eastern European Working Group.

People from across the district’s Central and Eastern European communities also took part in the big day.

Ian Simpson, Assistant Chief Executive (Business Services and Development) said: “European Neighbours’ Day brough Bradford's different communities together and encouraged tenants and residents to get to know each other better.

“BCHT is committed to supporting strong and thriving communities and putting people at the heart of our work.

In the evening (29 May) there was a celebration of dance and live music at the MAPA centre on Cotewall Road, West Bowling featuring a Slovakian band. The free event was organised by the Trident Youth Forum.

Every year, European Neighbours’ Day is celebrated by millions of residents. More than 26 countries are taking part in the 2007 event.
