former keighley councillor launches housing staff award

12 September 2006

Local tenants are being invited to nominate a ‘special’ worker at Aire-Wharfe Community Housing Trust as part of a new award scheme.

The ‘John Prestage Award’ is being run by the Aire-Wharfe Alliance, which represents around 30 local tenant groups, in recognition of the years of dedicated service given by the former Keighley councillor.

At the last local election John decided to retire after eight years as a Council member.

Arthur Goff, Chair of the Aire-Wharfe Alliance said: “John was an outstanding elected representative of residents in Keighley and a big supporter of the work of the Alliance. The award scheme aims to celebrate and promote customer excellence.”

“We want local tenants to nominate housing staff from Aire-Wharfe or its parent body, Bradford Community Housing Trust who they feel work especially hard to help them. It could be a housing officer, one of the repair team, a local warden or even a member of staff they have spoken to over the phone.”

John Prestage said: “I am delighted to be honoured with the launch of this new award.

“Providing high quality customer services is a key element of any housing operation and these awards aim to recognise the dedicated and unsung work of staff in the Aire-Wharfe area.”

Each month, starting in October, the Aire-Wharfe Alliance will present the winning employee with a certificate. The closing date for nominations for the October award is 27 September, thereafter the 25th of each month.

Monthly winners will go forward for the prestigious annual award at the group’s AGM in June 2007.

Nomination forms can be picked up from the reception of Aire-Wharfe CHT’s office at 6-14 Devonshire Street, Keighley or by calling Alex Brown on 01535 610200.
