keighley resident celebrates centenary

20 April 2006

Annie Scott celebrated her 100th birthday in April with a party for family and friends at Farish House sheltered housing complex.

Annie was born in Otley before moving to Keighley as a young child with her father and her two brothers.

She married Frank Scott and they had three sons - Peter, Frank and Michael - and a daughter Joan. Her daughter and youngest son, Michael, still live in Keighley and will join the party on Sunday. Peter lives in New Zealand.

Annie worked for over 40 years as a twister in local textile businesses in the town including Low Mill and Haggas’s at Ingrow.

Annie has always enjoyed the outdoors and regularly went walking in the area. Annie has also enjoyed many happy times playing bingo in Keighley.

Annie moved to Farish House in 1990. Aire-Wharfe Community Housing Trust owns and runs the sheltered complex.

Her daughter, Joan said: “My mother has always kept active and enjoyed good health. She has met many good friends at Farish House and they will join us for the birthday celebrations.”

Gerald Goldsbrough, Chair of Aire-Wharfe Community Housing Trust said: “Warmest congratulations to Mrs Scott on her 100th birthday. She is clearly a very special lady and one the town should be very proud of.”
