Keeping UPBEAT, keeping fit

Do you suffer from heart problems and are looking for support? Then UPBEAT could help you. It’s a friendly social group fro people with heart trouble and patients on the mend. Baildon tenant Ken Smith runs the UPBEAT group with the help of the cardiac nurses.

Around 40 members regularly get together for walks, exercise classes, day trips and social evenings. Some of the group have just completed a 10 – week Tai Chi class run by the health project HALE.

Ken, who had a triple heart bypass operation over two years ago, says:
“Joining the group is a great way of meeting friends, having fun and keeping fit. UPBEAT is free to join but we also welcome donations to help towards running our many activities.”

£200 boost for charity

There was a great turnout for Ivy Bank’s fundraising coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Over 30 residents at the sheltered scheme and around the neighbourhood enjoyed coffee and bacon butties in return for making donations to the charity’s annual ‘coffee morning’ campaign.

They raised over £200! Well Done.

A big thank you to Ivy Bank Warden, Paul Gallon who has been running the coffee mornings for over ten years and has helped raise thousands of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
