Bradford’s biggest social housing landlord is offering its tenants a hassle-free solution to getting those niggling jobs done around the home.
It’s called the Handyman Scheme and offers a helping hand with lots of different tasks – everything from assembling a flat pack set of new drawers and moving a sofa to tidying up a garden path or fitting door chains.
The scheme has been developed by BCHT’s Contract Services – part of the Group’s Bradford Building Services – with the aim of providing additional local services to its tenants.
It is available to all tenants living in East, South and West Bradford and the city area. Over the Spring, the scheme will be rolled out to the Trust’s three other areas – North Bradford, Shipley and Aire-Wharfe.
To book a local ‘handyman’ all tenants need to do is pop into their local Trust office and buy a voucher costing up to £35 per hour depending on the particular job or jobs they want doing. The cost includes VAT. Each job covers a maximum of two hours work. Housing staff will then arrange a convenient time with the customer for the ‘handyman’ to carry out the work in their home.
Once the job is completed, the tenant simply needs to sign the tear-off part of the voucher and hand it to the trades worker.
Delroy Beverley, BCHT’s Director of Contract Services, said: “The Handyman Scheme aims to offer our tenants the dedicated time and expertise of one of a team of workers and trades people to complete those odd jobs around the home, which at times can be difficult to get done.”
“The scheme also offers our tenants greater choice and the assurance that they are getting a trusted and qualified person calling round to do a job at a time convenient to the customer.
“This new scheme complements the extensive aids and adaptations work that Contract Services carry out to the homes of disabled BCHT tenants and people with mobility difficulties around the district. The scheme also underpins our commitment to be the Landlord of 1st choice.
Members of BCHT’s tlc – Trust Loyalty Card – scheme are eligible for a £5 discount on the cost of each handyman voucher.
The Handyman scheme is a paid-for service and is separate to the day to day property repairs carried out by BCHT’s Bradford Building Services - Operations.
