trust in festive donation to charity

4 December 2006

Bradford Community Housing Trust Group has made a £1000 donation to Age Concern’s Fight the Freeze campaign to help older people over the winter months.

On 6 Dec, BCHT’s Group Chief Executive, Geraldine Howley handed over a cheque to Keith Nathan and Paula Cook from the Bradford and District branch of Age Concern.

Geraldine Howley said: “Around one-third of our tenants are aged 60 and over and as a caring and responsible social landlord we recognise how important it is that older residents enjoy warm and safe homes.

“We are delighted to support Age Concern’s campaign to raise awareness of the difficulties older people face during the winter period and the Charity’s hard work to help them.”

Keith Nathan, Chief Officer of Age Concern, Bradford and District said: “We are delighted to receive this donation to support our Fight the Freeze campaign which aims to safeguard people against the dangers of cold weather and its affects such as hypothermia and other illnesses. These dangers are increased by worries about fuel costs.

“The campaign offers good advice on a range of things people can do to keep them and their homes warm this winter. BCHT’s donation will greatly increase the number of local people we can get this information to."

Last year, 24,650 people in England and Wales died as a result of cold related illnesses.
