An innovative new way of training staff working in social housing will be launched at the Chartered Institute of Housing Conference in Harrogate, this month.
The Housing e-Academy enables people to learn new skills at a pace and time that suits them. All they need is access to a computer and the internet.
This new flexible online approach has been developed in a partnership between Ilkley-based housing consultants Dutton Dodd and e-learning specialists, the Virtual College and Bradford Community Housing Trust who have provided their in-house training expertise.
The e-academy will offer a range of innovative and interactive online training packages including options for in-house induction training and short programmes in areas such as housing finance and governance work.
An innovative development with the Chartered Institute of Housing is underway to provide online versions of their level II and III qualifications. This will be offered as a blended learning solution mixing some taught sessions with online e-learning modules and workshops.
The first short training programme to be launched by the e-Academy partners covers Anti-Social Behaviour legislation including using ASBOs, the legal framework, what it means in practice, and also other tenancy enforcement measures.
The e-Academy will be launched to delegates at the Chartered Institute of Housing Conference in Harrogate, which runs from 20–23 June.
Social housing providers will be invited to join the e-Academy on a subscription basis. Income raised will go towards developing new modules and programmes for members of the e-Academy.
BCHT Group Chief Executive, Geraldine Howley said: “We are delighted to be founder members of the e-Academy. BCHT sees new technology as an excellent vehicle towards providing flexible training opportunities for staff and supporting their personal development.”
Paul Dutton , Director & housing consultant of Dutton Dodd said: “We are delighted that BCHT – one of the country’s leading Registered Social Landlords - is backing this innovative new way of learning and we are inviting more housing bodies to come on board. (more)
“The project is specifically tailored to meet the needs of social housing providers and their staff and fit the housing agenda of today.”
Rod Knox, CEO from the Virtual College said: “One of the key features of e-Academy is its flexibility. People can learn and pursue courses at their own speed at their desk, at home or on the move using a laptop. It aims to change the face of learning across the social housing sector.
“Why not pop along to the e-Academy stand at the CIH conference where we will be pleased to go through the system and highlight it’s many features.”
The Housing e-Academy will be demonstrated at the Dutton Dodd/Virtual College stand at the Harrogate International Centre.
