Shipley pilot scheme
Following a pilot scheme in December 2005, work has begun to replace balcony rails and panels to 88 flats at Owlet Road, Prospect Walk, Hall Lane and Fountain Way Shipley.
It was found that the original metalwork and Glass Reinforced Plastic panels were badly corroded and panels were brittle requiring them to be replaced for safety reasons. SCHT looked at several ideas and designs for the new balcony panels, which would give long service and low maintenance. The new panels are made of solid steel sheet, which has been galvanised and has a powder coated coloured finish with a rose design cut into each section.
The pilot scheme identified the method of manufacture and installation of the new balcony panels and following a tender period, the work was awarded to a local company in January to carry out the work. The new panels are programmed to be completed on all 88 flats, by June 2006.
