What is Involvement?

Getting involved means making a difference.

The trust is committed to listening to residents’ views and ensuring that ideas and initiatives you come up with to improve our communities are supported. We have specific officers who are dedicated to promoting involvement; we have dedicated budgets for activities and provide comprehensive training to all staff on the theory and practice behind involvement.

Involvement is about dialogue. Sometimes you may come to us with ideas, opinions, or simply requesting help with a problem in the community. On other occasions when we are reviewing services, developing policies and making any other changes we may come to you to find out what you think. We aim to ensure that the service we provide meets your needs and to do this we need to ask!

Why get Involved?

People get involved for lots of reasons. The main reason is because they have a problem in their area that they want to work with us to solve. People also get involved because they want to influence the way we provide our service. Some get involved because they have some spare time or are interested in a particular issue or ‘hot topic’

There are lots of benefits to you of getting involved:

The opportunity to make a difference either locally in your community or generally by influencing policy or service development

Getting involved can mean meeting lots of new people or acquiring a new skill. If you want to learn new skills that relate to some aspect of involvement then your Trust may support you.
It looks good on your CV. Prospective employers like to see that you are community minded and the fact that you have voluntarily spent your time for the benefit of others is an attractive quality.

Some people have skills that they haven’t used for a while or skills that they would like to share.

How to get involved?

It can be difficult to decide the best way to get involved, as everyone is interested in different things and have different amounts of spare time.

Lots of people decide how to get involved because they are interested in a specific problem, issue or task related activity such as policy development.

Some decide on the basis of their spare time. We offer lots of different methods to get involved which means being available for varying amounts of time.
